Stephen Strasburg

20-Year-Old Right Handed Pitcher Stephen Strasburg was drafted last night, #1 Overall by the Washington Nationals. Strasburg is a very talented young ball player. In College he played for the San Diego State Aztecs. He is 6'4", 220 lbs.

This guy is a phenomenal pitcher. His Fastball ranges from 95-97 MPH and can occasionally hit 100 MPH. His Curve ball has great movement and ranges from 79-81 MPH. This really helped him in college, and he was almost unhittable. In his final season he went 13-1 and pitched 109 Innings, and in those 109 Innings he only gave up 65 hits and 16 Earned Runs. He had an extraordinary Earned Run Average at 1.32. Also within those 109 Innings he had 195 Strikeouts.

Stephen Strasburg is suppose to be one of the best young pitchers to ever come out of college. He has more hype than Mark Prior when he came out for the draft. Some Scouts say he can skip the Minors and go directly to the Majors.

On April 11, 2008, Strasburg struck out 23 batters in 9 Innings against the University of Utah.

This guy is going to a make a direct impact for the Nationals once he starts playing, but as of right now it will be hard signing him because his Agent, Scott Boras, is looking for a contract in the range of 6 years, $50 Million.
